Oakley Union Elementay School District (OUESD) is starting a Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program for next school year (2025-26). This is an exciting opportunity because research shows that a DLI program can provide students with academic success at or above grade level in two languages. Students who enroll in DLI programs speak English, Spanish, or both English and Spanish. The goal of the DLI program is for all students to achieve or exceed in grade level academic standards, to become bilingual (can formally read, write and speak) in both Spanish and English, and to gain cross-cultural understanding. It is an opportunity for students to develop positive attitudes about students who speak other languages and have different cultural backgrounds, and it helps prepare students for college and career. Enrollment in the DLI program will only be for students enrolling in Transitional Kindergarten and/or Kindergarten as we are building the program from the beginning elementary grades (TK/K), and then adding a grade each year. The program will be offered at Laurel Elementary School. The following survey is intended to gather information, potential interest, and input from families who will have a student enrolling into Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten in OUESD. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexSkAhw_zH7p8trrpRBX3-XMwvB-FTro87PfSfdHrBi-2JMQ/viewform English: https://5il.co/37ntl El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Primarias de Oakley (OUESD) está considerando iniciar un Programa de Inmersión Bilingüe (DLI) en Español/Inglés el próximo año escolar (2024-25) o el año escolar siguiente.

Good day! Did you know Oakley Elementary is in the process of applying for a grant to become a community school? And, if we are awarded the grant, we may be able to expand and extend services to not our only students, but various members of their household such as their siblings, parents or any other household member! Importantly, part of being a community school is knowing what our community wants and needs. And this is why we want to hear from YOU! Whether you are a sibling, parent, guardian, caregiver, aunt/uncle, or other family member we would love to know how we could support you if awarded the grant. As such, the purpose of this survey is to identify the most important areas of growth/need in the community as well as identify the assets that are already present within the community that can address those needs. And, as an added bonus, every family member who completes the survey will earn their student 20 PAWS for the student store. To make sure your student gets their PAWS please be sure to write their name(s) on the survey. With that said, please know you can also submit the feedback anonymously if you would like. Simply write NA or a similar message to disengage the required prompt. Please be advised, if you need help filing out the survey you can call or stop by the office. Thank you for providing input so we can make Oakley Elementary the best school for its students. https://forms.gle/NpGtsfbjFHK64Yb7A (English) https://forms.gle/nNeuRUh7s6emz6rC8 ( Spanish). Dear Oakley Families, A few reminders: We will begin locking the front door beginning on Monday, August 26th at 8:40am In order to gain entrance after this time, ring the buzzer located to the right of the front door. This will complete the process of becoming a fully closed campus. We appreciate your cooperation and patience. I will also remind our families that only parents of preschool, TK and kinder students have access to school and will wear the appropriate lanyard. All other parents MUST come to the office and get a pass to gain access. We will host the first ELAC meeting of the year on Thursday, August 22 at 8:30am in Room 43. This is meeting for parents of students considered English Learners. We have recently seen an increase of COVID-19 cases in both students and staff. Please continue monitoring the children for symptoms such as fever, diarrhea and vomiting. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep home and contact the school. The current guidance is that students exhibiting the aforementioned symptoms must stay home and return once they have improved symptoms and free of fever, diarrhea or vomiting for a period of 24 hours. We have plenty of COVID-19 tests if you would like to have some. If you have any questions about this, please call the office at (925) 625-7050
