VOLUNTEERS (2026-2027)

Volunteers

We value and appreciate your support and willingness to volunteer in our schools. Volunteers enhance educational programs, support student supervision and safety, and strengthen connections between our schools and community.

Thank you for dedicating your time to support the students and schools of Oakley. There are many ways family and community members can become involved at their child's school.

Visitor, Volunteer, or Observer

Review the categories below to determine which applies to you.

Visitor: (No Clearance Requirements)

  • Attends a musical, drama, athletic, art, or academic event or assembly as a member of the audience

  • Attends a PTA or Education Foundation Affiliate Meeting

  • Attends school events at which parents are expected to supervise their own children

  • (examples: Family Movie Night, Open House)

  • Visits the school office for business

  • Attending a parent-staff conference

  • Attends an IEP or 504 meeting

  • Guest speaker for a presentation to students

Volunteer:

  • Has direct contact with students under the supervision of district staff

  • Assists in the classroom or other school activities

  • Lunch Duty volunteers

  • Field trip chaperones

Observer:
Upon written request by a parent/guardian, the school principal shall arrange for parental observation of a class or activity in a reasonable time frame and in accordance with Board policy and administrative regulations (Board Policy 5020 and Ed Code 49091.10).

Process for Requesting Volunteer Clearance:

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD! This process could take 2-6 weeks to complete.

STEP 1: Complete Application, Code of Conduct, and Request for Live Scan Form.

STEP 2: Submit below items to volunteers@ouesd.k12.ca.us:

STEP 3: Schedule an appointment for Live Scan clearance:

  • Call 925-625-0700 x4051 to schedule a fingerprint appointment.

    • If there is no answer, please leave a message.

    • If you are unable to email the required items, please bring them to this appointment.

  • Fingerprint Information (Spanish)

  • Request for Live Scan Service Form.

    • If you are not using the district Live Scan service, please take this completed form to a local Live Scan location. The district provides this service free of charge, local companies will charge a processing fee.

STEP 4: Complete Mandated Reporter Training (Required Annually):

  • Once your FBI/DOJ Live Scan clearance is received, we will email you the Volunteer Mandated Reporter Training link.

    • If already completed for your place of employment, please provide your certificate of completion.

  • Approved volunteers will be contacted to pick up their volunteer badge at their school site.

  • Please report lost or stolen badges immediately to your school front office.

    • Replacement badges may incur a processing fee.

    • Replacement badges may take up to 2 weeks to process.

END HERE if you do not plan to be a Volunteer Driver!

STEP 5: VOLUNTEER DRIVERS ONLY (Required Annually):

  • To transport students (other than your own) for field trips, complete the Driver Transportation Form and submit all required documents to your site Principal for approval (at least 15 days before the trip).

  • To transport your own student, complete the Transportation Exemption Form and submit it to your site Principal for approval.
