Officer Wayne joined Mrs. Ortega's class for their Ghost Novel literature circle meetings today. His presence added a meaningful, real world connection to their discussion. It was a great opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the Novel while also connecting with a community member.

Good morning, Delta Vista Families. I want to make you aware of what I communicated to our students and staff this morning regarding our student walkout event yesterday. I want to continue to thank you for your partnership to ensure that we continue to provide a safe place for our students and staff. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding this. Sincerely, Mr. Rusty Ehrlich, Principal Delta Vista Middle School Dear Delta Vista Students and Staff, I want to address the walkout that took place yesterday. First, I want to thank all the students and staff who helped support and maintain a safe school environment. All students and staff have the right to feel safe at school. Students, please know that freedom of speech means you can share your ideas, but it does not mean you can say or do things that make others unsafe. Jeopardizing your safety or the safety of others is not protected speech; it is a safety issue. Our campus continues to be a safe place for students to learn and grow. However, we are limited in our ability to keep students safe when they choose to leave campus during times they are expected to be in attendance. Yesterday’s walkout created a campus disturbance that threatened the safety of our students and staff. Students who participate in a campus disturbance or who leave campus when they are expected to be in attendance may be subject to action in accordance with Board policies and administrative regulations. Please know that I will continue to request the support of the Oakley Police Department when students initiate or are involved in a campus disturbance that has the potential to threaten safety. Our staff will remain alert to any future planned walkouts. Students are encouraged to tell a trusted adult if they know of any future walkout events. Responsible words and actions help create a safe school environment for everyone. Thank you for making the right choices and for helping keep Delta Vista a place where all students and staff feel valued, welcomed, supported, and safe.
