DVMS Reading Programs

California Young Reader Medal

DVMS supports student reading by participating in the California Young Reader Medal Program. DVMS supports four categories: Picture Books for Older Readers, Intermediate, Middle School/Junior High, and Young Adult.

To participate, students read all 3 books within one category by the deadline. After each book, students fill out the CYRM Google Form. They are then invited to a pizza party to vote for their favorite novel. Students may complete one or more of the categories, but they must read all 3 books within a given category to be qualified to vote and attend the party.

Visit the CYRM Nominees page to see this year's book list.

Read Woke Challenge

DVMS supports diversity reading by participating in the Read Woke Challenge. The Read Woke Challenge highlights the voices from thirteen different marginalized groups, and asks students to read from six of them.

To participate, students read 6 books, each from a different category by the deadline. After each book, parents sign off on the corresponding wedge, and students fill out the Read Woke Google Form. They are then invited to a raffle party to win prizes supplied by our local community. Students may complete six or more of the categories.

Click here for the Read Woke Challenge page to record what you've read. Click here to see Read Woke Book Selection List. After each book, fill out the Read Woke Google Form.
