Summer Lake Construction January Update

December 3, 2019

Dear Summer Lake Parents, Guardians, Family and Friends,

I have been optimistic since our October Break that construction would have continued to progress faster than it has. This would have afforded us the opportunity to move into Summer Lake Elementary School during the upcoming winter break.  I am sorry to say that due to necessary elements of the school not being completed, moving during the winter break is not going to be possible.  Over the past two months we have seen exciting progress being made; however, there are still a number of things that MUST be completed.  With less than three (3) full weeks until the winter break begins, there is just not enough time for those things to be completed.  As of this correspondence, an official date for the opening of Summer Lake Elementary School still cannot be given.

I will repeat myself in saying that our number one priority is and has to be to ensure our students are able to attend a school that is first and foremost safe and also fully equipped to support their learning. There will be only one (1) very first day at the NEW Summer Lake Elementary School and we want to ensure this is great first day. I know that this is not the news anyone wants to hear and I apologize to you and to all others that have been impacted by these delays. There are no excuses to be given, and our reality is that Summer Lake School has taken longer to build than was planned. I will continue to work closely with Principal Roberts, providing updates of the progress, as we continue to move toward an official opening date. We remain committed to doing everything possible to open Summer Lake Elementary School as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at ghetrick@ouesd .kl2.ca.us or by phone at (925) 625-5050.  I thank you for your continued support and patience.  Working together, we do make a difference.  Have a great day.

Respectfully,

Greg Hetrick
