When to Keep your Child Home from School

It is sometimes difficult to decide when and how long to keep an ill child home from school. The attached guidelines represent some of the common childhood illnesses and symptoms. A good rule of thumb is that if your child is suffering from any illness that prevents them from feeling well enough to participate in the usual activities and routines, they should not be sent to school.

Many parents may have questions and concerns about Enterovirus-D68 (EV-D68), the respiratory illness affecting children across the country.  Click HERE for information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding Enterovirus-D68.  We are providing this information as a resource; we do not have any knowledge of any Oakley Union Elementary School District students who have tested positive for the Enterovirus-D68.

Safety First for all Children

The Oakley School District is committed to providing a safe environment for all children at school and at home.  We have had no reports of firearms on any of our campuses and much of the credit must go to you the parents.  One of the easiest ways to prevent an accidental shooting at home or school is to make sure all firearms are properly stored.   It is not only the logical, common sense thing to do, but it is now the law.  California law holds that an adult may be held criminally liable if a firearm is improperly stored.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration dates have been announced for the 2018-19 school year.  Please click HERE for a list of dates.

As a reminder, the child must be 5 on or before September 1, 2018 to attend kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.  A child whose fifth birthday falls between September 2, 2018 and December 2, 2018 will be placed in a transitional kindergarten class.

The following documentation is required for kinder and transitional kinder registration:

  • Current immunization records
  • Birth certificate (Original only, no copies)
  • Two current proofs of residence (utility bills, escrow papers, property tax bill.)

Immunization Requirements Change beginning January 1, 2016

The Governor signed Senate Bill 277 which removed the personal belief exemption (PBE) from school immunization requirements.  This means that beginning January 1, 2016, the Oakley Union Elementary School District will no longer accept PBE forms for children entering preschool, kindergarten and 7th grade.  A personal belief exemption submitted prior to January 1, 2016 will remain valid until the student enters kindergarten, transitional kindergarten or 7th grade.  Please click HERE for more information.

Flyer Distribution to Students

The District understands that local community groups and/or businesses may want to distribute flyers to students from time to time to alert students and their families of events. All such flyers must be approved by the Superintendent prior to be distributed. Effective July 1, 2007, these flyers will only be approved and distributed by the schools once per month, on the last school day of the month. Please plan accordingly.

Submit the Permit for Flyer Distribution along with a copy of the flyer to the District Office at 91 Mercedes Lane. You may also email the completed form and flyer or fax them to 925-625-1863. Once the flyer is approved and returned to you, you will be responsible for delivering the flyers directly to the sites, bundled pursuant to the break-down numbers at the bottom of the permit at least five days before the last school day of the month. Questions regarding flyer permits can be directed to Heather Partida at 925-625-0700.

Please be aware that, beginning with the 2018-19 school year, we will only be distributing electronic copies of flyers to our families.  They will still go out on the last school day of each month. Please check back here for more information on the distribution of electronic flyers as we get closer to July 2018.
