Single Plan for Student Achievement

Congratulations Mrs. Odom - Laurel School Teacher of the Year!

Lisa has been a teacher at Laurel School for twenty-three years. For the past several years she has been our Transitional Kindergarten teacher. Prior to that, she taught Kindergarten for most of her career. Lisa is an excellent choice as our Teacher of the Year. She is an unsung hero who is a well-liked on campus because of her positive attitude and her friendly personality.

Lisa’s positive personality and “make it work” attitude was very evident the year she taught first grade in, what is now, the accounting office at the district. Because of a high enrollment, this was the only room available to her. She would walk her class back and forth each day for recesses, lunch and other activities. During that whole experience, she never complained and remained positive.

She is a G.L.A.D. trained teacher who uses those skills daily in her classroom. She has volunteered for the OUTA PAC committee, is a grade level rep, and has also served as an ELA lead and BTSA coach. She is always supportive of others and seeks ways to help in a friendly manner that is appreciated by staff and students.

As a TK teacher, Lisa developed her own curriculum. Her creativity and expectations of her students has seen many great rewards as she prepares her students to face the rigor of Kindergarten. Many of her ideas have been used in the TK programs throughout the district.

In addition to excellence in teaching, Lisa is a busy mom as well as active in her church community.
